Our summer of sports in full flow, action packed, fun with friends
💚 💚 💚

Why not take a look at our sister site – SYACL.com

South Yorkshire Ability Counts League is the league our football team play in and is a new site set up for when Covid allows the football season starts again. Meanwhile there are lots of interesting interviews on the site and regular Covid updates.  💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚

Thursday on the pitch, The Banned practiced and sports competition including Welly Wanging video

Pictures from Thursday on the pitch.

The Banned practised, there were keep fit exercises, the walking group again scaled the Heights of Haugh and unfurled the Social Eyes banner. Think we need a flagpole up there.

And a fantastic video of the sports competition including Welly Wanging!!!!  💚💚💚 💚💚💚 💚💚💚

Rehearsals, trips out, chocolate cake and KCM Arena work update

Up at the KCM Arena [Wednesday] our performance group were rehearsing for their next show …. The show must go on, come rain or shine!!!   💚💚💚

On today’s trips out & about while enjoying the heat, social distancing was never far away; and the aftermath of a tiring morning on the field for Rachel.  💚💚💚

At home Laura celebrated her birthday with a fantastic chocolate and strawberry cake, flowers and chocolates  💚💚💚

And finally, there was more work up at KCM Arena and thanks to John and his team we now have not only a wider entrance to the carpark but a wider car park area. Cheers lads, on one of the hottest days you have done a fantastic job.

Birthday, planes, staycation & Ruby

Morning everyone, Wednesday and it’s a very  mixed bag today of photos from the weekend and yesterday while we wait from today’s photos from the field.

First we have to update the scoring in the Summer of Sports after last Friday’s hilarity. In It Together just in the lead with The Rock and Bumble Bee tied. I’m sure the X Factor will stage a comeback this Friday.

Over the weekend we had the birthday of our drumming icon; we all hope you’ve had a great day Taylor  💚💚💚🎂🎂🎂

Everyone has enjoyed a great time over the last few days. It’s so nice to be able to spend time with our families at last even if it’s too warm for comfort. Claire is modelling her new visor, Laura  toasted marshmallows before she attempted the maiden flight of her plane [watch the video], David went to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the giraffes photo-bombed his picture, while Martin was out and about in Wentworth. We have had another sunflower finally decide to flower but the lupins are falling prey to the slugs.

Let’s hope next summer we will be back on our allotment growing our own veg minus the slugs.

And finally after the video we have an update on Ruby. She spent the weekend with Claire and family, who were disappointed to lose out on their caravan booking so they made the most of a weekend staycation at Rawmarsh. Water but no sand.

See you all tomorrow for the KCM Arena updates.

THE SUNFLOWER LANYARD

Lanyard

It appears that many people, especially those not connected to the disabled community, are unaware of the Sunflower Lanyard, the sign of a hidden disability.  This lanyard exempts the wearer from wearing a mask.

Read this ladies experience:

Something has been bugging me. Tom and I went for a coffee yesterday; we ordered with our masks on and sat inside the shop to enjoy it (masks off). Another customer comes in without a mask, orders his coffee and cake and goes to sit outside. The lady behind makes a comment about everyone should be wearing masks, the staff back her up. If they looked at the man again, they would have seen he was wearing a bright green lanyard covered in sunflowers, it’s really hard to miss. This lanyard indicates that this man has a hidden disability and is possibly unable to wear a mask.
I hope that it was just a case of the staff not knowing about this as well as the lady who made the loud comment. I wish I had spoken up but I also didn’t want to shout across the coffee shop that the man had a disability. Perhaps we need to spread the message, especially to shops etc what this lanyard means.
If you didn’t know, look at the link:

Not all disabilities are visible – some are hidden and not immediately obvious, such as learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.

Be visible when you want to be

Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower discreetly indicates to people around you including staff, colleagues and health professionals that you may need additional support, help or a little more time.

Listen to Daisy’s sunflower story and help to educate everyone in your circle just what it means.
