One of the highlights of the Social Eyes week is our visit Wathwood hospital farm and Courtyard cafe, where our clients always receive a warm welcome and they can interact with the animals. The feeding of the goats and donkeys and other animals features most weeks in our round up of our weekly activities.
During our furlough from the Harding Avenue centre we have had activity colouring packs delivered which feature Wathwood and our friends there. For those who don’t know Wathwood hospital this is a brief summary:-
Wathwood hospital provides medium secure inpatient services to male adult patients with mental disorders.
They offer assessment, treatment and rehabilitation; and aim to reduce the distress associated with mental health problems and promote recovery; they work to reduce the risks associated with the patient group and tailor treatment to meet each patient’s needs. They are dedicated to achieving the highest standards of patient care.
The model of care involves:
- establishing effective, sustained therapeutic relationships
- problem solving
- positive role modelling
- structured therapy programmes
They also offer a range of sporting, leisure, educational and vocational activities and are a recognised Recovery College campus.
When the lockdown is over please visit the grounds of Wathwood Hospital; the farm shop sells fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and flowers, hand-crafted gifts and jams, pickles and chutneys. Opening times Saturdays/Sundays 9am-3pm. The Courtyard Café serves menu’s prepared by patients, served Saturdays/Sundays from noon. Monthly theme evenings and talks. The Wathwood Courtyard is a social enterprise initiative and consists of the farm shop and café. The board consists of local residents, patients, business people and hospital staff. All profits are reinvested into the social enterprise.
