THE SUNFLOWER LANYARD

Lanyard

It appears that many people, especially those not connected to the disabled community, are unaware of the Sunflower Lanyard, the sign of a hidden disability.  This lanyard exempts the wearer from wearing a mask.

Read this ladies experience:

Something has been bugging me. Tom and I went for a coffee yesterday; we ordered with our masks on and sat inside the shop to enjoy it (masks off). Another customer comes in without a mask, orders his coffee and cake and goes to sit outside. The lady behind makes a comment about everyone should be wearing masks, the staff back her up. If they looked at the man again, they would have seen he was wearing a bright green lanyard covered in sunflowers, it’s really hard to miss. This lanyard indicates that this man has a hidden disability and is possibly unable to wear a mask.
I hope that it was just a case of the staff not knowing about this as well as the lady who made the loud comment. I wish I had spoken up but I also didn’t want to shout across the coffee shop that the man had a disability. Perhaps we need to spread the message, especially to shops etc what this lanyard means.

Not all disabilities are visible – some are hidden and not immediately obvious, such as learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.

Be visible when you want to be

Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower discreetly indicates to people around you including staff, colleagues and health professionals that you may need additional support, help or a little more time.

Listen to Daisy’s sunflower story and help to educate everyone in your circle just what it means.

Models, heat, games and a stubborn cameraman’s digit

Sunday, blissfully a little cooler, so let’s have a little fun day.

First we have the staff modelling !!!!! the new lightweight silk!! face covering that is now on sale @ £3 each. That’s the face covering staff member not included. To say it was blistering heat on the field is an understatement but the staff found the only overcast part of the day.  💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚

A few more photos from Friday’s scorcher @KCM Arena, where shade, under umbrellas and sun tans were the order of the day. Some pretty impressive tans now after a few warm sessions. 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚

And finally,

update on the dugouts down at the KCM Arena. Big thanks to Ricky Weatherstone and Liam Drabble for their hard work and giving their free time up. Watch out for the cameraman’s finger that was determined to have a starring role in the video!!

I’m sure there will be more updates from Rawmarsh St Joseph’s JFC before long.

More Welly Wanging, sports events, singing videos and a wet t-shirt ???

What a fantastic Friday on the field. The sun was blazing, umbrellas up again but this time against the sun, spirits were high for week 4 of our Summer of Sport.  💚 ☀️ 💚 💚 ☀️ 💚

Many questions posed during today’s session, the main one is why is Jack so wet?? We know it’s hot, but??? Keep reading to the end to find out.  💚 ☀️ 💚

After last week’s successful welly wanging it was more great wanging  in the sun, with some great throws recorded amid the hilarity. Highly competitive races were run, despite the heat, after all it was our Summer of Sport.  💚 ☀️ 💚

Social Eyes has some very competitive sportspeople, especially the football section. That competitive spirit is why we won the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League that the team play in.  💚 ☀️ 💚

Here’s the first batch of this week’s welly wanger’s in action. More over the weekend.  💚 ☀️ 💚

Now we have the sporting photos. Just look at those racers, they were innit to winnit.  💚 ☀️ 💚

A beautiful panoramic view of the field of dreams.  💚 ☀️ 💚

Another fantastic Social Eyes video, and after that the answer. Why was Jack so wet??  💚 ☀️ 💚

An Everest moment, The Banned perform, lots of fun but have a tissue ready

Thursday on the field and there were lots of activities taking place. Our walking group tackled the terrain around the Arena culminating with a photo from the heights of Haugh looking down onto their friends on the field below. They went for an Everest moment and unfurled the Social Eyes flag.

Meanwhile down on the KCM Arena our group, The Banned, gave a rousing performance much to the delight of the onlookers.

Today [Friday] the weather is set fare for another scorcher so there should be lots of happy faces again. At last the weather seems to be turning in our favour, but whatever the weather The Green Team will continue. 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚

Be sure to watch the video after the photos, but have a large box of  tissues ready. This is the reality of this pandemic and it’s not just the elderly that are desperate for the human contact of a cuddle. Our guys and gals will be in full agreement.

Stay safe everyone, the cuddles I’m sure will return. 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚
